The Natural Park of
Morvan is best reached by car. The roads are good and traffic is normally light.
From Calais, the most convenient route is made up of the A16, A26, A1, A3, then
the Boulvard Peripherique round Paris from Port Bagnolet to just after Port
D'Italy where the A6b is taken, leading onto the A6 to Lyon via Availlon. At
Junction 22 leave the A6 and head for Availlon City Centre where at a traffic
light junction turn left onto the D944 for Chateau Chinon. Follow the sign posts
to Chateau Chinon as the road winds left and right until you get to Lormes. Take
care in Lormes as you are diverted from city centre. Just follow the D944 to
Chateau Chinon until you get to La Pige with just a few houses on your left and
right. Just before you leave La Pige you get to the D161 on your left. Turn left
there and proceed to Vaux.
From Autun take the D978 in the direction of Nevers. Go through Chateau Chinon
to where the D978 turns sharp left. Do not take this turn but carry on straight,
taking the D944. On this road, you will encounter two roads signposted for Lac
Panneciere. Do NOT take these but carry on the D944. After 11kms you reach La
Pige. Take the first right, a very sharp right turn onto the D161 which will
take you to Vaux.
From Nevers, take the D978 in the direction of Autun. As you enter Chateau
Chinon at the 'T' junction, turn left to take the D944 for 11 kms to La Pige and
there the D161 to Vaux as above.
