Property Description
A simple & charming little end of terrace cottage built
in stone in 1824 and adapted as much as possible for modern living.
Ideal for Walkers hikers, fishermen. i.e people who are out for
most of the day ! If you want luxury or sophistication please don’t
come here.
Accommodation details
The accommodation is on 3 floors plus steps up to a
small terrace with steep drop. Front door from the terrace [ if you
are over 5'11'' beware.] into Kitchen/diner with gas cooker,
fridge, stone sink, cupboards. Large stone fireplace. Dining
table and benches. Door to small laundry/wash room. hand basin &
washing machine. First floor .double bedroom with Shower room,
Shower cubicle and handbasin. Sep W/C. Alongside the cottage is
a store with access behind where you will find a wooden deck
overlooking the valley of the Doustre. There are two smaller
buildings and a strip of uneven scruffy graveled garden. The weeds
usually hide most of the area. Beware rickety stone!
steps from footpath. The cottage was classified 1 Epie by ''Gites
de France'' meaning simple & unsophisticated holiday
accommodation. Pillows and blankets provided, you must bring
your own linen. [sheets towels pillow cases etc.] Parking in cul de
sac in front of the cottage.
Local area
The countryside around La Roche Canillac is very beautiful
and varied, mostly wooded on the steep valley sides and with lakes
on the plateau. It is situated mid way between Argentat on the
Dordogne river and Tulle on the River Correze high on the hills
above the river Doustre. The Doustre is a "premier 1" trout river
and many of the lakes have quantities of trout, pike, perch and
huge carp. You can walk out of the cottage onto footpaths which take
you straight into the woods and down the valley to the river. Other
activities in the area. Walking, riding, canoeing, cycling,
hang-gliding, rock climbing, swimming, fishing etc.Canoes Hire

St Martin la Meanne has a pool on the main road to Argentat. { 1
july to 3 sept Monady & Tuesday 10.30 to 13.00 15.00 to 17.30 wed

Loads of lakes at Marcillac la Croisielle
Etang de la Bord just on the other side of la Roche Canillac .
Le Lac de Feyt. Right on the otherside of Argentat but good for a
day swiming. There is a restaurant at the camp site. From Argentat
take the D98 to St Privat and where the road levels out take the 3
rd left to Serviere le Chateaux. Left and right through the village
to lac de Feyt.
In the rivers but it they are cold…….
Other details
I f you miss the shops in Argentat there is a bar Monceaux
sur Dordogne on the D 12 direction beaulieu where Maryse sells not
only beer etc but cigarettes and basic groceries…..nothing
exotic..but useful.
Filling stations Total on main D1120 as you head towards Tulle
At Casino super market.
Go out of town over the old bridge towards Aurillac and there is a
petrol station on the left.
There is one on the main D1120 at St Chamant and that is it.
Opening hours are pretty wierd but do not expect to get petrol
after 19.00 hrs or Sunday’s.
Marche du Paye farmers/ producers market meat , veg, wine
,cheese, art/crafts, honey etc etc.

Travel times & Directions
Please leave plenty of time for your journey, particularly
for the last part of your route. Many of the roads around Argentat
are narrow and winding, and by leaving plenty of time not only will
you have more time to enjoy the scenery, you will also travel in
more comfort and safety. Please do facilitate the passing of other
traffic when you are travelling. The Correze is located
Approximately 9 - 10 hours from the ferry ports of Calais and
Bolougne. Caen and Roscoff are 7 - 8 hours away (this inlcludes
stopping times for lunch etc.) Toulouse airports is 3½ hours away,
Bergerac/Rodez and Limoges are 2 hours drive and Brive (due to open
in 2011) airports is 1 hour.
Flybe to Limoges and Bergerac. Ryanair to Bergerac , Rodez and
Limoges. Cityair to Brive.
