Property Description

Le Bourg is set in beautiful and tranquil landscaped grounds which are there for guest’s enjoyment, and consists of two luxury adult only gites and the host’s (Derek and Jane) main residence.
Le Bourg is the ideal place for a tranquil relaxing break, we chose private hot tubs over a shared pool, private terrace over shared patios and an adults only policy.
Should you wish to join us or other guests for a chat and perhaps a glass of wine, we do have shared seating areas in the grounds
There is plenty to do here if you wish. Locally we have forest walks and bike trails in abundance (bike hire available on site), and there are many beautiful places to visit nearby.

Accommodation details

The Ivy House is a spacious wing of the principle house, which has been renovated into a luxury 1 bedroom gite. There are oak beams and character in abundance, and many exposed stone walls.
The bathroom boasts a separate large walk in shower and large corner bath, and the large bedroom is furnished in Louis XV antique furniture for that romantic touch.
Downstairs is a full size “Schmidt” kitchen with all appliances, a large dining area with views over the gardens, and a lounge area with a leather sofa, CD player and Satellite TV with DVD (CD’s , DVD’s and books can be borrowed from us at no charge). A laundry service is available on site.
Outside there is a private entrance, shaded parking area and a private terrace with your own hot tub for two, BBQ and table and chairs. The terrace catches both the early morning and evening sun, so is perfect for “al fresco” dining;
The grounds of Le Bourg boast shaded and sunny areas, there are sun loungers, seating and a hammock for guest use.

Local area

Rioux Martin has won many awards for its beauty and conservation. With a population of just 250, it is quiet but beautiful. Within the village and just a short walk from us is a beautiful lake set in pine forests with many marked out bike and walking paths. 5km away is the bustling market town of Chalais with its Chateau, restaurants and bars, local specialist shops and a supermarket.
Nearby, we have many beautiful villages to visit such as Aubeterre (10km), Brantome (30km) and St Emillion (20km).
If you prefer the atmosphere of larger towns, Cognac, Bordeaux, Saintes and Angouleme are all accessible within an hour. The beautiful coastal resort of Royan is about an hour away, and the town and port at La Rochelle is about 90 minutes drive. Throughout the year, there are numerous sporting, theatrical, musical and cultural events on throughout the area, most notably the Circuit Des Remparts historic street car racing at Angouleme in September, and the International show jumping at Chalais in August

Travel times & Directions

A car is essential in this area, but you can fly and hire, or why not make use of one of our own classic cars during your stay? We can arrange airport transfers and provide either a 1971 Mercedes sports convertible, or a Fiat 124 Spider convertible for your enjoyment, please see our website for details.
Airports
Our nearest airports are Angoulême (45min), Bergerac (75min), Bordeaux (1hr), Limoges, (2hr), Poitiers (2hr) and La Rochelle (2hr). Car hire is available from all of these.
Train
The Eurostar links to us via the TVG high speed service at Angouleme, where you can either be collected by us, or hire a car from one of the three hire centers adjacent to the station.
The TVG from Paris to Angouleme takes 3 hours.
Car
The ports of St Malo, Le Havre and Caen are around 5 hours drive, and the tunnel and Calais area ports around 8 hours drive from us.
