Ideal for couples who want to spend a relaxing holiday in beautiful countryside with interesting places to visit. This region is known as the Perigord Noir because of the black truffles found here and the dark oak trees which appear black as the sun sets. Locally, the village of Grolejac offers: 2 restaurants within walking distance, a large lake safe for swimming with a sandy beach, an excellent cycle path which follows the river valley with bike hire available, canoe hire on the river Dordogne and a tennis court. Accommodation details

Our rooms are named after two of the local chateaux. Both rooms are large with exposed beams and seating. Hairdryer supplied in each room. Fenelon: Large double with additional single bed, en-suite shower room with toilet and washbasin. Montfort: Large double with views down the valley, and a large private shower room with toilet and wash basin. Wifi internet access for use with your own lap-top computer. Guests have use of a sunny terrace overlooking the valley, which is a lovely place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and take in the view. There is also a terraced garden with sun-loungers. Our generous breakfast is served on the terrace, or in the beamed salon where there is a log burning fire out of season. We have a picnic basket available for guests to take out with them, or for snacks on the terrace. No smoking inside the house and no pets allowed. Our generous continental breakfast is included in the price (no hidden extra costs) and consists of a selection of cereals, choice of breads, croissants, pastries, preserves and honey, cheeses and cold meats, eggs, yoghurts, fresh fruit, fruit juice, tea or coffee. We are sorry but we do not accommodate children.

Local area

Chateaux and medieval fortresses perch above the river Dordogne and yellow standstone villages cling to the rock faces. The style of houses has not changed for centuries. Bastide villages have survived complete with their medieval market halls. Many village fairs and markets take place around the village squares where you can purchase walnuts, foie gras, chestnuts, cepes, in fact anything that is grown locally and is in season. Good country food is served in the restaurants with regional dishes of foie gras, canard and noix cake on the menus.

Other details

La Cachette is in a perfect position being close to medieval Sarlat, Domme and a short drive to the riverside villages of La Roque Gageac and Beynac. Rocamadour is an hours drive. Historic bastide villages, chateaux, picturesque villages clinging to rock faces, prehistoric caves with paintings and grottes with underground river, these are just a few of the attractions to explore in this beautiful region of France.

Rental prices/Changeover day

Both our rooms are 52.00 Euros per room, per night, per couple. For an additional third person sharing our Fenelon room the cost is 26 Euros per night. Single occupancy rate is 46 Euros per night. Weekly prices - 364€ (any time of year) A deposit will be required to secure a booking. Deposits are refundable up to 3 weeks prior to the holiday date, we therefore recommend you have holiday insurance. Deposits payable by Paypal in euros or sterling cheque. We do not have credit card facilities. Balance to be paid in cash euros. WE ONLY ACCEPT BOOKINGS IN JULY AND AUGUST FOR A MINIMUM STAY OF 2 NIGHTS.

Travel times & Directions

By road the A20 from the north is easily accessible, we are approximately 20 miles from exit 55. Full directions will be given at time of booking. The area is easy to reach by air, road and rail. Flights from many British airports come into the region at 5 airports: Bergerac (1.5 hours away), Bordeaux (3 hours), Limoges (2 hours), Rodez (2 hours) and Toulouse (2 hours). Now the new Brive-Souillac airport opens on 25th June 2010 with limited flights from London City Airport with Airline Operator City Jet and this airport will be the closest at approx 45 mins. Car hire is available from all airports. All of the channel ferry ports are within 7-10 hours. There is a rail service from Paris to Brive (1 hour away) or Gourdon (15 minutes)..
