Maison Laval self catering cottage

Property Description

Maison Laval is situated within the Parc Naturel Regional du Causse de Quercy and just on the edge of the village of St Sauveur-la-Vallee, in a beautiful, tranquil valley through which runs the R Vers. The surrounding causse gives rise to spectacular scenery and affords wonderful walks for the more energetic! St. Sauveur is in the heart of the Quercy region and although it feels quite remote it is only 7 minutes drive from Labastide Murat, a charming town with all amenities and. 20 minutes from the A20 motorway.

Accommodation details

The house comprises a large oak-beamed sitting room with a log burning stove, ideal for cooler evenings. The room is well furnished with plenty of comfortable seating, a television, DVD player and dining table and chairs. The kitchen also has a table and stools useful for a quick breakfast or snack. There is a cooker, microwave, fridge and dishwasher plus crockery and cutlery for six. From the kitchen you go downstairs to reach the freezer and the interior door to the ‘cave’. There are 2 large bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms plus a third double bedroom and close by a family bathroom with a shower, separate bath and toilet. Leading off the main room is a small study with views of the village. Although Maison Laval can sleep 6/7 people it is fairly compact and cosy and would be suitable for one or two couples. Outside there is a small garden around the house and you are welcome to indulge in any gardening that takes your fancy especially watering the numerous pots and tubs! Various herbs are planted to help in the preparation of delicious meals. There are tables and chairs and a choice of shady or sunny spots in which to eat or while away the time with a good book. The old pig sty, now a pool house with a barbecue area, forms a natural screen behind which is an 8m x 4m pool with Roman steps. This is a very private and sheltered spot with sunbeds and umbrellas which makes it great for an afternoon siesta.

Local area

Our nearest town is Labastide Murat, a drive of 7 minutes. It has a good selection of shops and Cahors, with the bustle of a small but lively city, can be reached in half an hour. Here there are several supermarkets and a twice weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays selling everyday produce as well as many gastronomic delights! Cahors is also the gateway to the wine producing area and you will find plenty of vineyards eager to allow you to taste their wares. There are many interesting places nearby to visit: The pilgrimage centre of Rocamadour, the pre-historic caves of Peche Merle, the rivers Lot, Cele and to the north the R Dordogne. There are fascinating villages all around, St Cirq-Lapopie clinging to the rock face, the medieval towns of Sarlat and Martel as well as many other unspoilt beauty spots. There is a great deal to see and do locally and in the summer there is a varied programme of fairs and festivals all of which are listed in the ‘Guide d’Ete’:- a magazine giving details of all local activities. Whether you want a relaxing holiday, sunbathing by the pool, a more energetic time walking, cycling, sight seeing or canoeing down rivers, or a mixture, Maison Laval offers them all.
