Cazals self catering cottage

Description
The area is the Quercy in southwest
France. It's in the "departement" of Tarn-et-Garonne which itself is part of the
Midi-Pyrénées region. Some of the landmarks are Lauzerte, Auvillar, Montauban -
all beautiful towns and villages which you can visit during your stay at Cazals.
During the autumn the light becomes milky and the air
is perfumed with wood smoke. The markets fill up with pumpkins and walnuts and
the clear, crisp days give way to chilly evenings. Winter is veiled in white.
The heavy fog wraps itself over the landscape and gives the countryside a
mysterious beauty. It's the time for fireside reading, watching old films or
walking through the silent fields. Spring is heralded by the forsythia bushes
that burst into life at the end of February. The gardens surrounding the house
are filled with flowers and the fruit trees blossom with vibrant pink blooms. As
for summer... the pool and the hammock come into their own and the surrounding
local villages gussy themselves up to welcome visitors.
Accommodation
The house consists of one floor of living
space. The large country kitchen has a table that seats six, a fireplace with an
open, wood burning stove, gas cooker/oven, dishwasher and two sinks. (A washing
machine for your use is available in one of the barns.)
Across the hall there is a light, airy lounge comprising an open wood burning
stove, a music centre and television where you can pick up CNN, Sky News and the
indispensable Radio 4. The CD library is extensive and eclectic and the DVD
collection is... a work in progress. A squishy day bed is perfect for an
afternoon sieste, and there are also two armchairs, and a comfy couch. In the
hallway, the shelves are groaning with a vast number of books. Philosophy and
contemporary American fiction are house favourites. The spacious master bedroom
has a double bed overlooking a wooded valley. There's also a writing desk and
plenty of storage space in the two large armoires. The second bedroom has twin
beds and looks out over a garden and the pool. The modern bathroom has a toilet,
bathtub and separate shower. There is a second toilet at the end of the entrance
hall. All the rooms (except the bathroom) have retained their original wood
floors. Original works of art hang throughout the house.
Outside
Outside the house, in the front garden is a table that seats six under the shade of a lime tree. There’s a barbecue and an oil lamp suspended from a branch for late night outdoor dining. A 10x5 meter pool is situated in a protected, south-facing field next to the house. It is for the guests’ exclusive use and is completely private. Fruit trees – plums, figs, apples, almonds and cherries, surround the property. A wooded path behind the house leads to a “source” in the valley below. There is a shaded area within the property large enough to accommodate two cars.
